Correctional Service of Canada (CSC), within the Department of Public Safety, is mandated by law to provide information about the offenders who harmed victims  if requested.  CSC recognizes that a significant percentage of crime occurs within the family and the Victim Services Division is committed to raising awareness of our services to victims of crime.  Victims receive information from CSC for various reasons, for example, to contribute to safety plans and/or making decisions about their relationship with the offender.

What will be covered
The session will cover:

  • How the Corrections and Conditional Release Act defines the word victim
  • The kinds of information that CSC can disclose to victims
  • The challenges CSC faces in managing the sentences and release decisions about offenders who have committed domestic violence and crimes against children
  • How information provided by CSC can contribute to victims' ability to plan for their own safety and that of their children.
  • There will be time for questions and answers.
